๐ช Becoming Gods¶

Do Latter-day Saints believe that they will โget their own planetโ?
No. This idea is not taught in Latter-day Saint scripture, nor is it a doctrine of the Church. This misunderstanding stems from speculative comments unreflective of scriptural doctrine. Latter-day Saints believe that we are all sons and daughters of God and that all of us have the potential to grow during and after this life to become like our Heavenly Father (see Romans 8:16-17). The Church does not and has never purported to fully understand the specifics of Christโs statement that โin my Fatherโs house are many mansionsโ (John 14:2).
โnu uh. We never said that.โ
Oh? ๐ง
Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye abide my law ye cannot attain to this glory.

(I've got more notes on D&C 132, btw)
How do Latter-day Saints envision exaltation?
Latter-day Saintsโ doctrine of exaltation is often similarly reduced in media to a cartoonish image of people receiving their own planets.
. . .
Likewise, while few Latter-day Saints would identify with caricatures of having their own planet, most would agree that the awe inspired by creation hints at our creative potential in the eternities.
โ Gospel Topics Essays: Becoming Like God
They will receive everything our Father in Heaven has and will become like Him. They will even be able to have spirit children and make new worlds for them to live on, and do all the things our Father in Heaven has done."
โ Gospel Fundamentals manual, 2002, Chapter 36, page 201
When weโre ready to create our own worlds and give leadership thereto, we will have great knowledge. Since knowledge is power, we will have power. Since knowledge can make us creative, we can be creators.
โ Marriage is Honorable, Apostle Spencer W. Kimball, BYU Speeches 30 Sept 1973
Then they gained the power and godhood of their Father and were made heirs of all that he had, continuing his works and creating worlds of their own for their own posterityโthe same as their Father had done before, and his Father, and his Father, and on and on.
โ People on Other Worlds, New Era April 1971
โthe Spirit of the Lord rested mightily upon meโthe eyes of my understanding were opened, and I saw as clear as the sun at noonday, with wonder and astonishment, the pathway of God and man. I formed the following couplet which expresses the revelation, as it was shown me.ย โฆ
โAs man now is, God once was.โ
โAs God now is, man may be.โ
โ Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Lorenzo Snow, Chapter 5: The Grand Destiny of the Faithful
After men have got their exaltations and their crownsโ have become Gods, even the sons of God are made Kings of kings and Lords of lords, they have the power then of propagating their species in spirit; and that is the first of their operations with regard to organizing a world. Power is then given to them to organize the elements, and then commence the organization of tabernacles. How can they do it? Have they to go to that earth? Yes, an Adam will have to go there, and he cannot do without Eve; he must have Eve to commence the work of generation, and they will go into the garden, and continue to eat and drink of the fruits of the corporeal world, until this greater matter is diffused sufficiently through their celestial bodies to enable them, according to the established laws, to produce mortal tabernacles for their spiritual children.

I guess it's a good look for PR to deny a doctrine that sure sounds absurd, but... it's not so good of a look when the church's teachings literally demonstrate exactly that.
